A Brief Intermission

Before delving into the socioeconomic aspects of the jubilee, a few minutes are warranted to discuss connections between the Festival of Weeks (Pentecost or Shavuot), and the Final Jubilee. Returning to a prospective timeline for Daniel's 70th week, it was previously noted that there are 111 days between Pentecost 2020 (May 29th), and the New Moon of the Festival of Trumpets 2020 (September 17). Interestingly, if an additional 9 days are added to September 17 (per Leviticus 23:32), one arrives at sunset on September 26, 2020. This would normally be the beginning of the Day of Atonement 2020, but during a jubilee observance would instead be the initiation of the Final Jubilee (with the blowing of the last shofar blast of the Festival of Trumpets).

In other words, there are precisely 120 days from Pentecost 2020 to the possible initiation of the Final Jubilee. This is an interesting number, as 120 jubilee cycles (of 50 years each) equals 6000 years, or 6 "days" of human history. In Genesis 6:3, we read:

"Then the LORD said, 'My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.'"

Some have speculated that this may be a veiled reference to the 120 jubilee cycles of human history, with the seventh "day" or thousand years being the millennial reign of Jesus Christ. This interval of 120 days emphasizes a possible connection between Pentecost and the Final Jubilee. Returning to Leviticus 23, we read about the Festival of Weeks (NIV):

15 “‘From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks.16 Count off fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the Lord.17 From wherever you live, bring two loaves made of two-tenths of an ephah of the finest flour, baked with yeast, as a wave offering of firstfruits to the Lord."

As noted in a previous post, Pentecost involves a 49 day count, followed by the observance involving a wave offering of leavened bread. This leavened bread is representative of the primarily Gentile Church, or Body of Christ, purchased by Jesus Christ the Lamb of God.

Turning to Leviticus 25, we review the requirements of the jubilee observance (NIV):

8 “‘Count off seven sabbath years—seven times seven years—so that the seven sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years.9 Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement sound the trumpet throughout your land.10 Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants."

Only Pentecost and the jubilee observance involve a 49 plus 1 sequence (of days or years). We see a similar pattern in Daniel's vision of chapter 9 (NIV):

24 “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.

25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ "

In a previous post we discussed Isaac Newton's interpretation of this vision possibly representing two separate sequences leading to the First and Second Advents of Christ. The Second Advent would involve a 49 plus 7 sequence of years. This is similar to a jubilee cycle, with the jubilee itself multipled seven times (per the punishments of Leviticus 26).

A picture emerges of the seeds of the Church planted on Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. The resulting crop is then harvested as the Final Jubilee is announced with the last trumpet blast of the last Festival of Trumpets, kicking off Daniel's 70th week (i.e. the Tribulation period of John's Revelation). Jesus Christ then returns to the Earth (with resurrected Saints in tow) 2540 days ( or 30 + 1260 + 1250 days) later on the final Day of Atonement. Seventy-five days later the first of a thousand Festivals of Tabernacles begins the millennial reign of Christ.
